Academic Advising Frequently Asked Questions
- Why do I have an advising hold on my account that prevents me from enrolling in classes
for next semester?
- Academic advising is a process that helps students and their advisors track their degree progress and ensure that they are able to graduate in the planned time frame.
- How do I remove the advising hold?
- Academic advising is completed virtually through DocuSign. Your first step will be to visit the CEE advising page on the website to identify your academic advisor. You will also find complete instructions on how to fill out the advising form and submit it for review from your advisor.
- I completed academic advising last semester, do I have to complete it again this semester?
- Yes, academic advising must be completed every semester before you register for classes in the following semester. This process is to ensure that students are remaining on track to get their degree within their planned completion timeframe.
- What if this is my last semester and I will not be enrolling in classes next semester?
- If you are currently completing your last semester you do not need to complete the advising process even though you will have an academic advising hold on your account. The hold will automatically be removed from your account once your degree posts or if you prefer, you can email your academic advisor and let them know you are graduating this semester. Once they notify the CEE office, they will remove your hold.
- How long does it take to get my hold removed once I complete my advising?
- Once your advisor signs your advising form the CEE office will automatically receive a signed copy that will notify them to remove the advising hold. The usual wait time for hold removal is 1-2 business days after the signed copy is received by the CEE office, but there are often high volumes of signed copies submitted to the office so students are urged to complete their academic advising as early as possible to avoid delays in their registration process. If your academic advising hold is not removed after 5 business days after your advising form is completed, please reach out to the CEE office.
- What do I do if my academic advisor declines to sign my form?
- If this happens you will receive a notification from DocuSign with the message reason your advisor sent for declining the form. Once you make the specified corrections and resubmit the form your advisor will be able to sign it. If you are unsure about the corrections you need to make, feel free to reach out to the CEE main office or your advisor for clarification.
- Why is it taking so long for my advising form to get signed?
- Oftentimes students will not have completed all necessary steps on the form so it will remain pending in their DocuSign account without routing to their academic advisor. Make sure you have completed all steps on your end (i.e. attaching a copy of your MyPlanner report, signing the form, etc.).
