Faculty Co-Founder
Child and Adolescent Development
Dr. Maffini is an Associate Professor of Child and Adolescent Development and Director
of HDCC. Dr. Maffini's research, clinical, and community-focused expertise are rooted
in counseling psychology, emphasizing trauma-informed practices and culturally responsive
approaches to healing, healthy development, health equity, and holistic well-being
for children, youth, and families in local communities.

Dr. Matthew Capriotti (he/him)
Faculty Co-Founder
Psychology
Dr. Matthew Capriotti is an Associate Professor of Psychology and a licensed clinical
psychologist with expertise in supporting children, adolescents, and families around
mental health and wellness. In addition to training the next generation of mental
health professionals, he conducts research on treatments for youth with tic disorders
such as Tourette Syndrome and on LGBTQ+ mental health.

Communicative Disorders and Sciences
Dr. Nidhi Mahendra was an Associate Professor in the department of Communicative Disorders
and Sciences at SJSU. She currently serves as the Speech and Language Pathology (SLP)
Co-Chief of the clinical department of Speech and Audiology of Duke University Hospital
(DUH), and Co-Chief of the Division of Communication Sciences in the Duke Department
of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences.
