English to University Studies Pathway
Do you want to enroll in Semester at San José State (SAS) but do not meet the English Language requirements? We can help. The English to University Studies Pathway is your gateway to academic success at San José State University. In partnership with San Francisco State University (SFSU) and San José State University (SJSU), this program is designed to help you improve your English language skills at SFSU and transition smoothly into university-level courses at SJSU while immersing you in the vibrant culture of Silicon Valley.
If you aim to enhance your academic record, transition to SJSU, or prepare for graduate studies, the English to University Pathway offers a structured and supportive pathway. Through the English for Academic Preparation (EAP) program at San Francisco State University American Language Institute English for Academic Preparation, you’ll build the academic English skills needed to succeed in the Semester at San José State (SAS).

Admission Process
- Students apply to the EAP program here.
- Students receive a conditional admission letter from the SAS program and an admission letter and I-20 from the EAP program. Students use their EAP I-20 to apply for an F-1 visa.
- Students enter the U.S. with their EAP I-20 and F-1 visa and study full-time in the EAP program.
- After meeting the SAS English requirement with the EAP, an online interview may be required with an SAS staff member.
- Students will then have their I-20 transferred from the EAP to SAS.
- Students then study full-time in the SAS program.
EAP to Undergraduate SAS English Requirements
EAP Level 80 completion with: B+ 87% average final grades across the three English courses: TOEFL Waiver
OR
530 ITP score and B 83% average final grades across the three English courses
- A Level 80 student who does not meet the requirement but advances to Level 90 and can try to meet the Level 90 requirement to transfer to SAS.
- Students who are below the minimum but close to the EAP to undergraduate SAS English program requirements listed above may advance to the SAS program with written recommendations from at least two EAP instructors. Students will also be required to have an online interview with SAS staff.
