  • Admission Policy
    • Applicants who are denied admission based on GPA score may re-apply to the program once the GPA is raised to meet the minimum requirement. Applicants may take courses at a community college to raise the GPA.
    • Applicants who are denied admission based on the interview may reapply to the program during a subsequent admission cycle. Applicants who are denied admission based on the interview a second time may not reapply to the program.
  • Grading Policy
    • Students must earn a B or higher in each course. Students may attempt a course a maximum of two times, including withdrawals and grades less than a B. Students who do not successfully complete their courses in two attempts shall be disqualified from the program.

Students who are not making sufficient progress in the program as evidenced by completing at least 6 units per semester with grades of B or higher in each course shall be disqualified from the program.

  • Dispositions Evaluation
    • A disposition includes the professional attitudes, values, and beliefs demonstrated through both verbal and non-verbal behaviors as educators interact with students, families, colleagues and communities. The Department of Special Education requires that each Education Specialist candidate and MA candidate adhere to the departmental disposition guidelines for coursework and fieldwork. Students can review the most current dispositions evaluation form on this webpage and reach out to their advisor or course instructor if they have any questions about this evaluation. Students will receive a disposition evaluation in EDSE 224, the two MA Research courses and all fieldwork courses.
  • Student Success Committee
    • The Student Success Committee (SSC) is charged with identifying and responding to challenges individual students are experiencing in the program in order to support students’ successful completion of the program. The SSC is comprised of all Department of Special Education faculty members and meets on a monthly basis. Any faculty, instructor, supervisor, or staff member can refer a candidate to the SSC when they are concerned about a student, for example, because the student is demonstrating challenges with dispositions (see Dispositions Policy), challenges with academic work or assignments, challenges in the fieldwork setting (e.g., student teaching or Intern teaching), and/or collaboration with peers. Student Success Committee members discuss the areas of concern confidentially and may develop recommendations for the instructor and/or the candidate in order to support them in effecting improvements. Students will be notified if an Action Plan is needed to address more significant concerns related to their progress in the program. The student's progress will be monitored in the subsequent SSC meetings.
